Biography
I was born and raised in the hot and dry Central Valley of California. At 22 I left home and joined the Navy and was immediately stationed in Japan where I met and married my husband of 20 years. In 2019 I retired after 20 years of service from the US Navy as a Chief Petty Officer and began my journey to rediscover and redefine who I am. In between shuttling my two teenagers through their high school and college pursuits and supporting my husband in his retired military dreams, I create art. My goal, hopefully, is to provide something of myself to leave behind. Something to make this world more beautiful and to share my love of life and art with others.
Artist's Statement
My goal as an Artist is to show the beauty in things as I see it. As a career Veteran I’ve spent much of my life under the direction of others and now a world of options and opportunities has opened up for me. It is these new and exciting choices that I look forward to sharing with those around me.
My goal with photography is to discover ways to show the hidden beauty in everyday objects and create exciting and interesting images from unexpected sources. I find the greatest joy in capturing the tiniest details that tend to get overlooked and missed when viewing a subject and highlighting them.
In art, my inspiration is simply to push my skills and abilities. I love the simplicity of palette when using pencil and charcoal to capture the essence of a subject however, I am equally drawn to the boldness of color and texture in abstract paintings. You will find me splitting my time between painting bright, bold and loud abstracts and sketching out a new charcoal portrait.
To me, ultimately, art represents choice. My choice, and that is what drives me and keeps me moving forward.
